And the lecture ends with a “What America should have done for Lafayette when he was stuck in an Austrian prison and exiled from France and banned from most other European countries.”
It doesn’t help that Lafayette is my favorite and it takes very little prompting for me to launch into his life story.

the first les mis song i ever heard was ‘stars’, and i heard it completely out of context. i had no idea what the story was about. it made me really like javert, and i hoped he’d find this criminal he was looking for. as a result, even now that i’ve read the book and seen the musical, i can’t see javert as an ‘evil’ character in any way. he’s not.

In French, you don’t really say “I miss you.” You say “tu me manques,” which is closer to “you are missing from me.”
I love that. “You are missing from me.” You are a part of me, you are essential to my being. You are like a limb, or an organ, or blood. I cannot function without you.
